Department functions and Production

One of the main aims and objectives of LTWA when it was founded in 1972 was to compile, translate, print and publish books and manuscripts on all aspects of Tibetan culture, history, literature, philosophy, traditional science etc. under the LTWA logo. In fulfillment of this objective, the English Publication Department started to function in 1973. Since its inception, the department has been actively engaged in publication activities concerning Buddhist philosophy and other aspects of Tibetan culture.

This department functions as a publishing house and engages itself in all the processes involved in the production of a book -- from data entry, making the layout, formatting, cover designing and finally producing a final copy for the printing press.

So far this department has published 567 titles including the journals. BOOKS:

English Language: 151 titles with main subjects on Buddhist philosophy, archaeology, history, politics, medicine, language and folk culture and others related with Tibetan culture.
Tibetan Language: 227 titles with main subjects on Buddhist philosophy, collected works of eminent Tibetan masters, scholars, saints; biographies, epic stories, archaeology, history, politics, medicine, language and folk culture and others related with Tibetan culture. These are printed in book format and traditional Tibetan Pecha format.
Hindi Language: 6 titles on Buddhism and literature.
JOURNALS:

  1. Tibet Journal: This International quarterly journal is published in English. To date 143 issues (upto Vol XXIV No 1) have been published.
  2. Tam Tsog: This bi-annual journal is published in Tibetan and to date 32 issues have been published.
  3. Science Journal: This journal is published in Tibetan and to date 13 issues have been published. 4.Botvani: This journal is publisHed in Hindi and to date 1 issue has been published.

Many of these publications have been translated into various foreign languages such as Spanish, German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Russian, Hungarian, Finnish, Japanese, Korean and Chinese language. To date, more than 78 titles have been published in these languages. This department also deals with the copyright administration, preparation of Agreements and Contracts between authors and publishers, provision of ISBN numbers, etc. Publications are distributed worldwide by our Delhi-based distributor M/s Paljor Publications (website www.paljorpublications.com). They are also available at the library’s sales counter located within the LTWA building.
